British Wool in all its glory will be on display at the Meet the Manufacturer event, organised by Make it British, next week at the The Old Truman Brewery.

The event, in London on May 24-25, will host a Wool Room and British Wool will create a fabulous pop-art Sheepish Studio for those wanting to feel the ‘wool love’ first hand.

Featuring product from Alternative Flooring, Ian Mankin, Jessica Dance, Marie Wallin, Maud Designs, Melanie Porter, Melin Tregwynt, Cherchbi and Tetrad - the Sheepish Studio will provide knowledge about British Wool, which is grown on over 60 different pure breeds of sheep and many more half, rare and cross-bred sheep in the UK.

Additionally, a Make it British talk hosted by Bridgette Kelly, Interior Textiles Director of The Campaign for Wool, will discuss the reasons for and benefits of choosing Britain and British for wool textile manufacturing.

The panel will include Alan Thornber of Laxtons Yarns in Yorkshire, Eifion and Amanda Griffiths of Melin Tregwynt in Wales and Lorna Haigh of Alternative Flooring in Hampshire.

Bridgette Kelly said: “This is such a great opportunity to promote wool manufacturing in the UK and all things wool and British. Britain is known to be a centre of excellence for wool textiles and there is nowhere that understands the skilled chain of production of natural wool better.

“The surge in interest in the story of our wonderful British sheep and their natural assets continues to grow, so it’s brilliant to be at this event, which showcases British manufacturing in force.”

Kate Hills, CEO and founder of Make it British, added: “We’re delighted that British Wool will be playing such a large role at this year’s Meet the Manufacturer. There’s a big focus at the moment on encouraging the
next generation of young people to make it in manufacturing and this year’s activities planned by British Wool, including a Wool Room and panel discussion, will undoubtedly be inspiring.”

This year’s Meet the Manufacturer will include a series of expert-led seminars, interactive workshops and demonstrations, including British fashion designer, Patrick Grant, back for the second time and a UK Fashion &
Textile Association (UKFT) panel discussion with ‘Manufacturers of Tomorrow’.

Plus, for those that are starting out on their journey in manufacturing, there will be a team of experts on hand ready to offer one-to-one practical advice on all aspects of sourcing and production.

This year’s trade show promises to be bigger and better than ever with 200 exhibitors including great British knitters, weavers, tanneries, leather-goods makers, CMT units and homeware factories.

Also new for 2017 is a ‘British Brands Hall’ with a carefully curated selection of creative businesses showcasing their distinct and inspirational brands.
