Tributes for Pollyanna Pickering
By Mark Hayhurst 11 Apr 2018
Tributes have been paid to world-renowned wildlife artist and environmentalist Pollyanna Pickering.
Pollyanna passed away on Thursday, March 29, at the age of 75, following a short illness.
Pollyanna was a regular and much-loved guest on the Create and Craft TV channel, painting live as her friend and colleague, Lynda Chapman, demonstrated card-making using products which featured her beautiful wildlife artwork.
Commenting on the sad news of Pollyanna’s death, Lynda said: “In August 2012 I launched the first Pollyanna Pickering collection for which Pollyanna offered to bring some of her artwork into the Create & Craft studios as a ‘one-off gesture’. Five years on Pollyanna was still as enthusiastic to come and be part of the launch of a new collection as she was on that first show. During those five years a close friendship developed between us and also with her daughter Anna-Louise.
“Pollyanna was such a warm, caring, generous and unassuming lady whose passion for wildlife and conservation was such an important part of her life and I feel privileged to have known her and will miss her being with us in the studios for future shows.”
Lindsay Jane Vines, Create and Craft’s Managing Director, added: “We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Pollyanna’s passing. The loss will be felt not only throughout the artistic and environmentalist communities, but also through the crafting one; her artwork touched so many lives through the card making kits Pollyanna and Lynda worked together to bring to our viewers. Not just her incredible artistic talent, but also her kindness of spirit were recognised by all that met and worked with her. Our thoughts are with Pollyanna’s family and friends at this sad time.”
Create and Craft will be making a donation to the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation, the work of which will continue, and future fundraising exhibitions of Pollyanna’s work are planned. The Pollyanna Pickering Foundation raises funds and campaigns for conservation and animal welfare in the UK and worldwide. Established in 2001, the Foundation is a small but effective non-profit organisation which campaigns internationally to prevent the exploitation of wildlife and raises funds to support animal welfare and conservation projects worldwide.
Donations to the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation are welcomed as an alternative to flowers or gifts to the family. Donations, if desired can be made online at www.memorygiving.com/pollyannapickering
