The Knitting Network owners, TXN Limited, today announced the appointment of Russell and Emma Morris as shareholders and directors to the board.
As prominent figures in the hand knitting industry, Russell and Emma bring a wealth of market knowledge and experience to The Knitting Network. Former Managing Director and owner of Sirdar, Russell served more than 28 years with the UK’s biggest yarn brand until 2018, during which time he also chaired the UK Hand Knitting Association between 2005 and 2018. Emma is a well-known figure in the industry, previously holding a number of senior roles including Commercial Director of Coats Crafts UK and Sales Director of Sirdar. She has over 15 years’ experience in the sector.
Steve Hollis, Director at The Knitting Network, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Emma and Russell on board. Their passion and enthusiasm for the industry and unrivalled experience, make these appointments a massive coup for our rapidly growing business. As the UK’s fastest growing dedicated online knitting retailer, The Knitting Network is used to pushing boundaries and with Russell and Emma as part of the team we aim to continue to do just that.”
Emma said: ”We’re delighted to be back in the hand knitting industry. The team at The Knitting Network have done a fantastic job over the last couple of years and our investment recognises the potential for the business to continue to develop and grow. Russell and I are very much looking forward to joining the board and getting “stuck in” to add value wherever we can.”
Originally founded in 2016, The Knitting Network has been growing rapidly since TXN Limited acquired the business in July 2018. This growth has been driven by directors Steve Hollis, Adrian Booker and Amy Last, who between them have extensive knowledge of the industry and its consumers. Steve co-founded Deramores in 2010, which rapidly grew to become the UK’s market leading online knitting retailer prior to its acquisition by Ideal Shopping Direct in 2012. Adrian’s career of almost 20 years in the media industry saw him hold roles including Publisher of Woman’s Weekly magazine and Commercial Director at Time Inc (UK). Amy has been a highly prominent marketing expert in the industry for the last decade, previously holding the roles of Marketing Director at Deramores until 2015 and Head of Marketing (Craft) at Time Inc (UK) until 2018.
The Knitting Network is already the UK’s fastest growing dedicated online knitting retailer, with sales more than doubling each year since its change of ownership in July 2018. Selling yarn, accessories and patterns to tens of thousands of knitters and crocheters worldwide it has taken a unique approach to online retailing and aims to drive sustainability in the industry to the next level.
The business already puts environmental considerations at the heart of its operations with all customer orders sent out in plastic-free, eco-friendly packaging. However, a wider sustainability strategy is being implemented and in recognition of this The Knitting Network became the UK’s first online retailer to achieve Green Mark certification in September 2019. The retailer also works with small charities to highlight environmental, health and wildlife concerns, including the Bumblebee Conservation and Content Dementia Trusts, with customers making tens of thousands of small donations to raise funds.
