The Beeswax Wrap Co. and the Vegan Food Wrap Co. Collaborate with the National Trust on a Zero-Waste Kitchen Essential

By Emily Peagram 24 Sep 2020

The National Trust are celebrating their 125th anniversary year by focusing on their commitment to the outdoors to try and get everyone connected with nature. Inspired by nature and the National Trust’s care and passion for green spaces, leading eco-friendly and plastic-free companies The Beeswax Wrap Co. and The Vegan Food Wrap Co. have created two exclusive collections of reusable food wraps. These reusable food wraps feature designs that draw upon the seasonal foliage and floral colours of the beautiful countryside.

National Trust’s commitment to the environment

To mark this significant anniversary in its history, the National Trust has committed to achieving carbon net zero emissions by 2030, and establishing 20 million trees to help tackle climate change, creating green corridors for people and nature in urban areas and running a year-long campaign to connect people with nature.

The National Trust have chosen to collaborate with The Beeswax Wrap Co. and The Vegan Food Wrap Co. for their environmental commitment to the outdoors and beautifully designed planet-friendly products.

The benefits of beeswax wraps and vegan wax wraps

According to The Beeswax Wrap Co., if a family of four who use cling film to wrap four sandwiches every day, switched to using beeswax or vegan wax wrap

s, they could save over 500 metres of cling film from going into landfills every year.

The product, which is reusable and completely biodegradable, is an easy-to-use and eco-friendly alternative to cling film and plastic sandwich bags, helping to reduce unnecessary plastic consumption.

Made from GOTS certified organic cotton which is soaked in a blend of locally sourced beeswax or a vegan wax blend alternative, organic jojoba oil and pine resin, these long-lasting wraps have naturally antibacterial qualities, helping to keep your food fresh for longer.

By helping households reduce plastic-waste and also keeping food fresh for longer, beeswax wraps and vegan food wraps are revolutionising the zero-waste lifestyle in the kitchen. Unlike other plastic-free food products, these wraps are made from all-natural materials which are completely biodegradable and compostable.

The Collections

Handcrafted in the Cotswolds, every single beeswax and vegan wax wrap is thoughtfully and carefully handmade exclusively for the National Trust.

The Beeswax Wrap Co. & The Vegan Food Wrap Co. source GOTS certified organic cotton from a mother-daughter duo who reuse and recycle the water used in cotton production, and then print designs onto the fabric using planet-friendly organic dyes.

The Beeswax Wrap Co. source all of their beeswax from trusted local sources, including National Trust properties such as Tyntesfield, North Somerset. This local beeswax is then blended with organic jojoba oil and pine resin to create the flexible and self-sealing finish.

The Vegan Food Wrap Co. use the same creative process, swapping beeswax for a blend of plant-based waxes which are soy and palm oil free. They were the first plant-based waxed food wrap available in the UK, and the only Vegan Society certified wraps.

The final product is completely plastic-free, reusable for up to a year (and can be rewaxed to last longer), eco-friendly and biodegradable at the end of its life. Easy to use, simply place a wrap over, under, or around whatever you’d like to store and use the heat of your hands to release the naturally adhesive seal. Between uses, wash with cold water and dishwashing soap and store in a cool place.

As well as creating an eco-friendly product, The Beeswax Wrap Co. & The Vegan Food Wrap Co. have worked hard on creating a packaging solution that reflects their environmental values. Certified carbon balanced by conservation charity the World Land Trust, the packaging is offset from tree to delivery, protecting and restoring carbon-rich wildlife habitats around the globe.

The illustrations on the wrap collections have been designed by Melanie Selstrom exclusively for the National Trust and celebrate the wildflowers and pollinators found in our much loved countryside.

A minimum of £2,000 from sales of these wraps each year will be donated to the National Trust to support their bee conservation work in looking after nature, beauty and history for everyone, forever.
