Start preparing for Sew Saturday 2017

IT’S time to start preparing for and getting involved with Sew Saturday 2017.

It’s a campaign that was launched three years ago by Sew magazine and its sister titles, Crafts Beautiful, Make It Today Dressmaker, Let’s Knit, Let’s Get Crafting and Craft Business.

In an age of online shopping, the idea is to show people what’s great about going to a bricks-and-mortar store – being able to see and touch fabrics, ask the staff for advice, take part in workshops and meet like-minded stitchers.

The event, which will be held on October 21, has grown over the last two years, with more than 220 shops taking part in 2016. Stores reported taking massive revenue from the event and were put on the map as a sewing hotspot by the new Sew Saturday map, which has a new interactive element this year.

Customers and shops alike will be able to click on a store and see who is taking part and get their details.

It is so easy to sign up as well, head along to the Sew magazine website ( and click on the Sew Saturday button. It will take you to the Sew Saturday home page where you can find all the details about getting involved.

The new welcome back includes promotional materials such as:

Daisy the Dachshund – New adorable mascot. Cater to all skill levels; adult and children. Available in pincushion, toy, embroidery and quilted designs.

Interactive Map - New Google Map, with a fresh new look and ability to search for shops near to a postcode.

#SewSelfie - New printable photobooth props to enjoy on the day and share across social media.

Posters - Can be customised with your shop name. Also have save the day slips, signage for the windows etc - everything you could need.

Website Graphics - Share your participation on the website with graphics such as badges, logos and email templated.

Social Media Images - 10+ social media images including profile photos, blogs posts and more.

There will also be extensive media coverage promoting the event, which promises to boost the profile of bricks-and-mortar sewing stores.

Each store that signs up to the campaign is encouraged to host its own special event to draw in consumers, including anything from free tea and cake to star appearances by big industry names.
