Shops report strong sales for Yarn Shop Day

Yarn Shop Day - an awareness day that supports the UK high street craft stores - took place on 12th May 2018, with the majority of shops reporting high levels of footfall and strong sales. Some shops surveyed experienced their best day of trading ever.
“We didn’t think it was possible to improve on last year’s event,” says Sarah Neal, editor of Let’s Knit magazine and organiser of the industry supported annual event. “But feedback reports suggest that many stores had an even better day day this year.”
Now in its fifth year, Yarn Shop Day enjoys greater public knowledge than ever before. Woolful, located in Hope Valley in the heart of the Peak District, said the day exceeded all expectations with customers travelling over 90 minutes to attend the event.
Sarah Neal continues: “This year we saw some fantastic initiatives, with vendors using Yarn Shop Day as a way to introduce customers to different sectors of the yarn community. For example, Flock On The Plain in Wiltshire hosted pop-up shops from eight indie dyers under the banner of Flockfest. Similarly, Alterknit Universe in Bristol had a trunk show and an appearance from podcaster and indie dyer Amy Florence. Events like these are not only valuable exposure for small indie businesses otherwise limited to online outlets, but also give bricks and mortar customers a wider and more exciting choice.”
