Hobbycraft Predicts a Crafty Christmas

By Sarah Jane 28 Nov 2012

Art and crafts retailer Hobbycraft has reported a huge rise in the sales of craft materials, as consumers prepare for a handmade Christmas.

The chain has seen a 200% increase in sales of creative decorations and a 150% increase in the sale of Christmas card materials, while sales of cracker kits look set to soar as savvy customers go for both a personal approach and value for money this season.

TV presenter and craft enthusiast Kirstie Allsopp visited Hobbycraft in Greenford this week to find materials to make handmade baubles for a stall at her children’s school fair, and sign copies of her new craft-inspired book, Kirstie’s Vintage Home. She said: “I spent a fantastic morning at Hobbycraft and loaded up on supplies for the school Christmas fair. It’s a true Aladdin’s cave for creative inspiration.”

Hobbycraft’s Katherine Paterson said: “Once again Kirstie is on trend this Christmas, judging by the craft sales we’re experiencing. I think it’s down to old-fashioned values and the chance to make something that has meaning; a memory that can be cherished for years to come.”
