Mr X Stitch, Jamie Chalmers, will be hosting an exciting interactive exhibition dedicated to cross stitch at The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show at Olympia London in March.
The Mr X Stitch Guide to Cross Stitch exhibition features cross stitch and canvas work from the archives of the Royal School of Needlework alongside new work by modern artists and designers that are pushing the boundaries of the genre. There‘s cutting-edge work from Theo “Crapestry” Humphries and Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė, from Lithuania, and contributions from designers including Emily Peacock, Lucie Heaton, Ann’s Orchard and of course Mr X Stitch himself.
“I want to give people a sense of what an amazing craft the humble cross stitch can be,” Jamie said. “This exhibition will change the way you think about this simple stitch.”
For anyone wanting to learn more about the art of cross stitch, Mr X Stitch and degree students from the Royal School of Needlework will be running drop-in sessions for all levels, from beginners through to experienced stitchers.
The Knitting & Stitching Show is the UK’s biggest textile art, craft and design event and the Spring show sees thousands of crafters descend on Olympia London each year. Highlights include: 200+ workshops and free demonstrations hosted by expert tutors; galleries by leading textile artists, graduates and groups; shopping with 180 specialist craft retailers under one roof; drop-in knitting and crochet clinics; Sawdust Hearts, a commemorative fundraising craft project to mark the centenary of Armistice Day; The Knitted Tea Room competition; the National Needlecraft Awards; and the Campaign for Creativity stitched petition to protect creative and craft subjects in education.
