Derwent Art Prize creating a big draw as exhibition arrives in Keswick

By Mark Hayhurst 16 Nov 2018

Following the launch of the Derwent Art Prize 2018 at London's prestigious Mall Galleries, the drawing exhibition, which includes work by national and international artists, will now tour to The Pencil Museum in Keswick, Cumbria for a two-month period.

This incredibly exciting exhibition includes both 2D and 3D works created in pencil, coloured pencil, graphite and pastel, showcasing drawing in all its diversity.

Running from November 15 until 31 January 31, 2019, the exhibition features artwork by 20 artists from the North of England alongside four individual prize-winners, including the overall Derwent Art Prize winner, internationally renowned Parisian artist, France Bizot.

Alongside Bizot’s figurative coloured pencil drawing Madame Bovary, the Derwent Pencil Museum will showcase artwork by two other international artists - Serbian artist and second Prize-winner Jovanka Stanojevic, and French artist Emma Bertin Sanabria who was awarded the Young Artist Prize.

All 24 works on display at the Keswick-based destination celebrate the versatility of drawing mediums and the creative possibilities they offer for people of all ages and abilities. From Paul Gladstone’s highly intricate illustation of a rocky waterfall in County Durham entitled Low Force, Teesdale, to James Eagle’s monumental architectural drawing Dining Room - caCO3 Depositional House, the Derwent Art Prize 2018 spans a wide range of subjects and is guaranteed to inform and inspire.

Plus, if one of the works catches the eye, visitors can purchase their favourite piece on the day.

Access to the exhibition is included in the price of a standard entry ticket to the Derwent Pencil Museum, with prices starting at £4.95 for adults, £4.50 for students and seniors and £3.95 for children.
