Crafters needed for Harrogate Christmas tree

By Mark Hayhurst 17 Oct 2018

If crafting is as big a part of your festive season as turkey and Christmas pud, then be sure to put The Knitting & Stitching Show at Harrogate on this year’s Christmas list.

The Knitting & Stitching Show is the UK’s biggest event for people who love textile art, craft and design and comes to Harrogate Convention Centre from November 22-25.

The show’s organisers are inviting local crafters to be part of the show by knitting, crocheting, felting or sewing a colourful Christmas decoration for the its Christmas Tree Decoration competition.

There are prizes for the Best Tree Topper and Best Tree Decoration. Winners will receive £100 of vouchers to spend at the show stand of Cheshire-based knit and stitch retailer, Black Sheep Wools. The two runners-up will receive £50 of vouchers to spend. Tree toppers should be maximum 12 inches high and must be able to sit on top of a tree. Tree decorations should be maximum eight inches high and be able to be attached or hung to a tree.

Competition entry forms are available on the show website at www.theknittingandstitchingshow.com/harrogate and should be sent to: The Christmas Competition – Harrogate, The Knitting & Stitching Show, 58 White Lion Street, London N1 9PP by November 2. Entries should be clearly marked with the maker’s name, phone number and the word Harrogate. At the end of the show, entries will be donated to local charities.

Katie Ventresca, event director for The Knitting & Stitching Show, said: “Our Harrogate show always has a wonderfully festive feel so we can’t wait to see all the handmade entries in this year’s Christmas competition.

“Show visitors and local textile crafters never fail to impress us with their talents and their decorations will be hung on the show’s Christmas tree in pride of place. By donating the competition decorations to charity after the show, local stitchers will be bringing a little colour to the lives of those in need over the Christmas season.”

The Knitting & Stitching Show at Harrogate offers over 190 workshops covering every aspect of textile art and craft imaginable and for all levels. There are 20 stunning Textile Galleries from leading contemporary textile artists, groups and graduates from Yorkshire, across the UK and around the world as well as artists at work in a live studio environment.

There are drop-in knitting and crochet lessons, an unrivalled shopping experience with hundreds of exhibitors selling fabric, equipment and other specialist supplies, and there will be a spectacular display of 300 crochet animals from the Edward’s Menagerie collection by luxury British wool and yarn company, TOFT.
