Cockpit Arts opens doors for Winter Open Studios 2019

By Mark Hayhurst 18 Oct 2019

Cockpit Arts is throwing open the doors for its celebrated Winter Open Studios.

This twice-yearly shopping event is the only time Cockpit is open to the public, making it an exclusive chance to buy direct from over 140 of the best craftspeople in London, see where it all happens and support this hub of creative talent.

Located in Deptford (December 6-8) and Holborn (November 29- December 1) over two weekends , it’s the destination for festive shopping and to buy direct from Cockpit’s makers, designers and artists.

Friday night lates: Cockpit Arts is open 11am to 8pm on Friday for festive shopping in Holborn and Deptford. Features from 5-8pm include live music and a chance to win a £50 Cockpit Arts voucher with a hidden Golden Ticket.

And for locals, Cockpit is offering free entry to Camden and Lewisham residents for the first hour each day – 11am to 12 noon, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

As part of the Holborn event, The Out There Art Fair is back for another year, presenting work by over 50 ActionSpace artists, and giving you the chance to buy a unique artwork to add to your collection. Guest curator Cornelia Marland will select this year’s exhibition. ActionSpace is a London-based visual arts organisation that supports artists with learning disabilities and creates innovative projects for people with learning disabilities to engage with the visual arts.

Annie Warburton, Cockpit’s CEO, said: “A visit to Cockpit Arts is one of London’s most joyful winter experiences. Whether a once-in-a-lifetime heirloom piece or a simple, hand-printed card, there’s little to beat buying fine craft in the studio where it was made, direct from the person who made it.

“I love how people’s faces light up as they discover something new or get lost in browsing, conversation and the warmth of Cockpit’s atmosphere. It’s a convivial experience, far away from the affray of the high street, and many come back to us year after year to see what’s new.

There’s a special magic, like nowhere else - and gifts bought here carry that magic with them.”
