Amy Gunderson named yarn director at Jimmy Beans Wool

By Mark Hayhurst 24 May 2019

Jimmy Beans Wool, the market leading online retailer of yarn, has recently hired Amy Gunderson, a seasoned knit and crochet designer to the new position of yarn director.

Her responsibility will be to strengthen the Jimmy Beans Wool yarn division by utilizing her vast experience in fibre and design. As yarn director, Amy will have her hands in all things yarn, from curating and buying the varying fibres, to designing exclusive knit and crochet patterns sold at Jimmy Beans Wool retail and web stores.

Amy will report directly to CEO Laura Zander, co-owner and founder of Jimmy Beans Wool and will be based in Reno, NV.

Gunderson was most recently the creative director at Universal Yarn based in Harrisburg, NC. She has independently published crochet and knit designs for all of the major publications, and occasionally self-publishes under her Ravelry store name - Get Off My Lawn Designs.

Zander said: “Talk about hitting the jackpot! When Amy told me she was leaving Universal to pursue freelance work, my next response was ‘What do you think about moving to Reno?’. I have had the chance to work with Amy over the years (through Universal Yarn) and her creative mind is like no other, her designs are so special and unique. I just know she is going to make an amazing addition to our team. We’re all so excited!”

Amy added: “Jimmy Beans has been on my radar ever since I started knitting about a decade ago. I’ve had the pleasure of crossing paths with Laura numerous times over the years, and have always been so inspired by her energy and endless ideas. I couldn’t possibly be more excited to join such a forward-thinking company and team!”

Amy is jumping headfirst into her new role at Jimmy Beans Wool and will launch a collection of curated kits featuring a variety of garments and accessories for all skill levels to enjoy. She has hand selected some of her own designs and paired them with well-loved yarns from Universal, Magpie Fibers, Malabrigo and many more.

Jimmy Beans Wool continues to be a leader in the craft industry, recently acquiring Namaste and dellaQ, two beloved companies amongst knitters, crocheters, and makers. Both companies sell popular designer handbags, project totes, organizers, accessories, and more. The full collections as well as new styles will be available through retailers across the country and exclusively online at
