KnitPro travel the globe to pick up new trends

12 Dec 2018

Shiris Jain, vice president of marketing at KnitPro, looks at what will be hot next year.

KnitPro has been supplying the knitting and crochet industry for more than eight years from our factory based in Jaipur, India. Our skilful staff and development teams take pride in the products we bring to markets all over the world, but this takes a lot of research by us and our network of craft experts that feed in ideas throughout the year. As we travel to shows across the globe we are always on the look out for new trends in knitting and crochet to ensure our products remain innovative and exciting.

Socks

Socks continue to be much loved by crafters and with more and more designers and yarn companies entering the market, from main stream to indie dyers, we see this continuing. We offer DPNs in all our ranges to take in to account personal preference and budget. We have also created a range of small circulars perfect for sock knitters that prefer to knit in the round in this way.

Crochet

Crochet is still increasing in popularity and has a younger age profile than that we see in knitting. From basic blankets, which are great entry level projects, crocheters are progressing on to more complex projects such as garments and some very challenging Crochet Alongs. Alongside our range of hooks, which are available from 2mm to 35mm in the Jumbo Birch range, we have some great accessories that are indispensable to more complex projects such as locking stitch markers and our Needle and Crochet View Sizer.

Colour

Colour is extremely important to crafters. Fair Isle knitting and crochet are a particularly strong trend that reflect what has been seen on the catwalk. From garments to hats and even socks, it seems everyone has been bitten by this bug. To really bring out the beauty of your Fair Isle our Blocking Mats and Rainbow Knit Blockers are just the ticket. Keeping your yarn untangled and organised is also very helpful, so our range of knitting bowls, yarn dispensers and boxes are definitely worth considering.

We have seen a growth in the trend for colour pooling with a limited number of yarns, but we believe this will grow in importance. For successful colour pooling in crochet it is particularly important to work with two or three hooks in different sizes at a time to make sure you can accurately bring out the patterning. Our new Zing crochet hook set is perfect for this with nine hooks to accommodate a variety of yarn weights.

Wellbeing

It seems you can hardly open a newspaper without there being an article about how craft contributes to your wellbeing – something that knitters and crocheters have instinctively known for quite a while. This trend has been championed by Betsan Corkhill, of Stitchlinks, and we believe it is a new way for people to find their way in to craft. Having a broad range of products to help the beginner feel comfortable is something we pride ourselves on.

Valentine’s day

At this time of year we are also thinking about Valentine’s Day and what could be nicer than bringing some knitting or crochet romance to your favourite person’s life? We have super-cute, heart-shaped Amour Stitch Markers in the collection to go with our Magnetic Knitters Necklace. The Knitting Charms we launched earlier this year make a lovely gift and are oh so useful. Finally, what could be more romantic than a ring at this time of year? Our Row Counter Ring is elegant and fantastically practical to help keep track of a pattern.

Whatever trends begin to emerge, rest assured that we will be developing products in our ranges with your customers in mind.

KnitPro will be showing their new range for 2019 at h+h Cologne from March 29-31.
