Octagon Distribution launches in UK

Octagon Distribution is the new UK distributor for Soak Bath.
Carmen Schmidt, of A Yarn Story, has announced the debut of Octagon Distribution with the acquisition of rights to distribute Soak, a luxury wash for knits and other delicates, in the UK.
Octagon Distribution will continue as a division of A Yarn Story, which has been handling distribution for brands Cocoknits and Purl & Loop since late last year.
Schmidt said: “I know importing can be a bit of a hassle and is a barrier for many small shops to stock great products from abroad.
“A Yarn Story specializes in those hard-to-find notions and yarns from overseas and since we were importing them already for the shop it made sense to distribute some of them as well.”
With new brands Soak and Lazadas added to the distribution portfolio, it was time to name a division to manage it all. The result is Octagon Distribution which will also be based in Bath. Schmidt said: “Having a distribution side to the shop made sense in our early days with fewer brands and products. As shop owners we have to think creatively about different revenue streams whether it’s unusual products, workshops and events, attending shows, and so on. With the distribution side taking on a life of it’s own, it was time to formalize that side.”
Luxury detergent company Soak Wash Inc has been distributed in the UK since 2011 and makes delicate handwash Soak for the craft and lingerie market.
Jacqueline Sava, owner of Canadian-based Soak, said: “We’re excited to be working with Carmen and her team at Octagon.
“Knowing that Carmen operates a successful retail business in Bath shows that she is very familiar with the needs and desires of our retail partners. We’re looking forward to continuing to build strong partnerships with our stockists as we grow the Soak business in the UK.”
Soak recently launched their starch-free ironing spray Flatter for quilters and dressmakers at The Great British Sewing Bee Live in London.
Octagon Distribution will also be taking part in the Bright Sparks New Designs Forum at CHSI Stitches in Birmingham in February 2018 where shops can see all their products in person.
